We are a club team supported by the school, and we play the sport of Ultimate. More commonly known as Ultimate Frisbee, Ultimate is played on a grass field with dimensions of 70 yards by 40 yards with 25 yard endzones. 14 players convene on a field, 7 from each team. One team starts on defense and pulls the disc (like a kick-off) to the other team, starting as offense. You advance the disc through passing only (you cannot run while you possess the disc) in an attempt to catch the disc in the opposing endzone. All this time the defense is attempting to cause a bad throw, swat away, or intercept the disc causing a turnover and then trying to score themself. Games are played to a point value or time limit.
Our school team plays other colleges in the area, some of which have links from our links page, so you can check out their sites. We are a new team, but have really developed in skills quickly. Our first semester we barely won any games, and now we are proficiently beating teams and have the hopes of qualifying for nationals next year! This year our goal was regionals and we made it!
Our team needs you! Please check out our practices, and if you are a student, you may come to any of them whenever you please. We have a pickup game on Thursday evenings open to both non/students.
Unofficially born in the fall of 2004, it started (at best) as a gathering of 20 people. Playing in barefeet or running shoes inside the track fields of Long Beach State, the games followed a rugged pick-up style of Ultimate. With the introduction of competitive play in the spring by transfer student, Will Harris, CSULB Ultimate began to take shape under the leadership of President Daniel Smeltzer, Vice-President Augusto Lorenzo, Treasurer Will Harris, and others. Adam Raty joined in the spring semester and took on the role of co-captain. With his athletic prowess and Ultimate understanding, the team quickly grew. Now the Stalkers have over 30 people as active members and have a one unit class offered Friday mornings (KIN 198). They even made their first appearance ever at Regionals of 2007 in Arizona. Check out the links section to see Long Beach State's UPA ranking. More will come.
Whether you have any experience playing ultimate or not, you can easily join our team. Simply come to any of our practices, and expect to have several friendly "vets" shake your hand, learn your name and invite you to come again. Check out our practice page to find out when we meet.
